Quote from: ETHANol
I got flamed when I said that the police were idiots for shutting down the city over some light bright signs.  But I really would feel no sympathy for that chick if she got shot. She knew exactly what she was doing.  Even after T's sex change operation, you guys have the man power, just don't let her kite at P-Gay.

Ethan I understand the reason to goof a bit on Star Simpson, however, that aside, stating she should have been "shot" is a bit uncivilized and over the top, don't you think?  For her MIT career fair shirt to be mistaken for a bomb, and to have a swat-team of state troopers pointing live MP5's at her and nearly mowing her down, is frankly outrageous.  Thank God she had enough presence of mind (and or fear) to put up her hands, do as she was told, and mollify the police.  Tragically, if she hadn't and had been shot dead, we would have all felt the heartbreak of an adolescent kid being gunned down like that.  I'm sure there would be people (apparently like you) that would have said; Good riddance, and "I have no sympathy for that chick".  However, in today's seemingly autocratic and heavy-handed government it would have sent yet another chill through the air.  Above all, try to imagine most what Star's parents would have felt if/when they heard the news that their daughter had been mistakenly machine gunned to death, by State Police.

CJ, agree with some of what you say but the mistake would have been Ms Star's if she was shot dead, not the MA State Police. If she's so highly intelagent she should know not to mess around with this stuff at all, hell a dumbass knows that these days. She is a very lucky girl.

CJ, for the most part I agree with you.  The militarization of the police, proliferation of SWAT teams and no-knock raids on non-violent, usually drug offenders, is insane.

I never said I wished this girl was shot.  That would be a horrible outcome for everyone.  I would not wish this on anyone.  I am firmly against capital punishment, especially for minor offenses without a trial.

My only point was, I believe she knew exactly what she was doing.  She knew what putty in one hand with a circuit board sewn on to her shirt would do.  Was the response over the top, absolutely.  Was it predictable, absolutely.

If she had gotten shot, I would feel like I would when I hear a free-solo rock climber gets hurt/dies. It's sad, but they were huge risk takers.  Except in her case she was putting others safety at risk.

When I hear about the police breaking into someone's house at 3 am gunning down the resident in a state of confusion, I have a empathy for the victim and anger at the police.  In her case I would have empathy for the police.

I like her apology, "I'm sorry I caused any problems, but they over reacted."  She has a problem with arrogance and honesty.  It all fits in with her behavior at P-Bay.

I hate to agree with that asshole Ethan but he is right. It was intentional and if those other dudes with the light brites had not done what they did in Boston I don't think she would have done her prank. Prank is what it was. Look at the picture. Art? I believe in natural selection. Humans are not an endanger species. Yes it would have been a sad tragedy if she was killed. Life is sad sometimes.

Guys I posted on the other classic neka some stupid crap trying to be funny and deleted it. Star is not stupid and getting into MIT and then suddenly playing stupid does not fly with me. But I am wondering about her name. Allot of kids have cool hippie names like hers. Some of these parents name there children this way do so becuase they are very liberal and want there child to have an enlightend and unique life. Or maybe the parents were not all to serious. Or maybe the parents maybe a little out there. I wonder if in Stars case she was a bit misguided(parents to much acid) which with raw talent turns into a rebelious activity for attention or to stand out. Like her name she attempts to find her place and prove she is smarter than others to attempt thing like launching without a lesson. My point is maybe her parents were not the best support. I realize this is very Freudian but once I realized the troubles she creates the unique name seemed to stand out. My thought are she may not have had the support and her ability caused her to go her own way....Freud would look at her parents. Her parents named her Star.. Thats why she acts out, just trying to belong or fit in. Funny it comes out so rebelious and misguided.

If I am wrong then Im on Ethanols side.. minus death. But the she is a sociopath with parents that may have been too nice and supportive and were nieve to her activities.

Why do I know not to got to the airport with now banned items. How proud was she about a blinky Radio shack 5th grade project. Building an alliby wearing it previous. Come on its not dorky it below her inteligence as a project and bringing the blinky thing in the airport is also below her intelligence.
When feeling we need revenge we all think of all the naughty vengful things we could do back and if caught could explain away. Like can I tell an officer to pound sand or I think he is an idiot and say so and it ok cause its my opinion and I have fredom of speech. So when we get to court it will not stick and th e officers vanity will be shunned for ever arresting me at all. MIT is for the gifted and talented. I like to assume she is talented... misguided or not.. Not stupid... Guilty!!!

Most of us dont act after considering "what if" scenarios we know will end badly for us.

Why women is always to be hurt by other people?
Does it mean women will always be in this scenario..
